I find it so easy to get caught up in plans for things. Now that we have our very own home, it's usually something house-related. I feel like I'm always working on some project in my mind.
Since I started my very short-term babysitting job, I've been making lists and trying to pin down exactly how to spend the money: tiling the dining room floor (it's carpeted, and I find it totally impractical), updating the upstairs bathroom with beaded board and tile floors, moving the laundry room out of the half-bath and putting in a shower...the list goes on.
I think I need to take a breath, and stop. I have been blessed with a beautiful home. Of course there are rooms that I wish were a different color, and I would love to tear out the kitchen and start from scratch. But I can't, and it is still a perfectly lovely home. Far nicer than many people in this world have. Instead of selfishly looking for ways to make it please me more, I need to appreciate the great blessing that God has given me, and just be content.
Now, there are things that do need to be taken care of, like the oven that stopped working on Sunday (just the oven, not the stove top; we haven't had a real chance to trouble shoot it yet).

I need to focus more on being tidy and organized. Guests will notice untidiness, but they can't read your mind and know that you wish your cabinets were a different color.
A good thought that I had was to work on things that will move with me. Like window treatments, and reupholstered furniture.
I am horribly tired of all of this election business, as I'm sure all of you are, but if you have time, you can find a good read here. I really respect Dr. Mirus and Phil Lawler, and their political pieces have been excellent.
