{pretty, happy, funny, real}

Every Thursday, at Like Mother, Like Daughter!

{pretty}
Taughannock Falls
 The bad drought over the summer caused the waterfall to dry up...autumn brought rain, so it's happily flowing again. It's so beautiful. This photo was taken at the overlook. If you pay to park, you can walk to the bottom. The height of the waterfall is incredible.

{happy}
The wonder of flowers...he tries to say "flower" when he sees them in a book!
 My Mother-in-law came to visit us a few weeks ago. I took her to the college on Monday to walk around while Zach was in class. She snapped these photos of Tony and I, which arrived on CD from her this morning! They make me smile. It's difficult to get nice photos of us because I'm usually the one with the camera.
Looking down at the pond. This bridge has a very Asian look - fitting since it's near the Oriental herb garden.
 The campus at NYCC is very lovely. They own over 200 acres, but even if they didn't, the areas around the academic buildings are landscaped very nicely. I take Tony over there to walk sometimes when the weather is pleasant. There are weeping willows around the ponds, with lots of places to sit, and good walking paths.

We walked across the bridge many, many times.

{funny}
Apple snatcher.
 I foolishly left apples on the low counter, and the next thing we knew Tony had one and was going to town.

{real}
A bushel of pears.
I was at the Mennonite market yesterday and they had bushels of #2 pears for $5.99. Having very limited funds for Christmas, I thought perhaps pear preserves would be in order. We have my great-grandmother's recipe somewhere, so as soon as I get it, the canner is coming out! I haven't done any canning since last summer, and I really want to be prepared to do more next year. First step is purchasing BPA free lids - why on earth is it okay to have toxins in the products you put your food in?! We're very careful about the few canned items that we buy (usually just coconut milk and tuna), but I just read that mason jar lids have the same lining that cans in the store use. Ugh! Tattler makes reusable BPA free canning lids.

  1. Such great photos! I've always wantes to try canning. I guess I just always assumed it was a lot of work and mess. Maybe I should try it anyways though.

  2. It isn't as much work as one would think. We canned a bunch of applesauce last year, and it was pretty easy. Maybe start with a little bit of something and see how it goes. :)

  4. Such beautiful pictures and what a bargain on the pairs. I think homemade gifts are the best by far!

  5. The pictures are lovely. I am sorry I don't get many photos with my kids, either.

    I canned some pear chutney with my mom's pears this year.

    I had no idea that lids had BPA in them-it never occured to me. Duh. I was thinking about getting reusable ones for next year, and I guess now I have to.
