Man's Best Friend

Call me a fool, or a sucker, if you like, but I got Tony a puppy.

Listening to him say "dog" in his baby voice was just too much. "Dog" was his first word, after "dada."

I think it's really important for children to have pets, especially a dog. My family didn't get our first dog until I was closer to 10, and she was full-grown. Zach is going to do obedience training, and I get to potty train.

Zach and I are still debating the name. I like Jack or Bailey (after George Bailey). Zach doesn't have any ideas - except that he doesn't like Bailey.

Double trouble.
The puppy is a rescue of sorts - I found a lady who rescues dogs, and she had rescued a pregnant one. We don't know what the father is (maybe black lab?), but the mother is Treeing Walker Coonhound. He definitely has hound ears. He's a cutie. Hopefully he'll be potty trained quickly.

The lady had a 4 month old Australian Shepherd to give away, too, and I was this () close to taking him, but the thought of the long hair needing to be groomed discouraged me. He was beautiful, though. I still want him when I think about it.

Hopefully we'll have a name for the puppy soon. I don't like nameless dogs.

  1. Aww, so cute. I think once we have more outdoor space we'll be getting the gurks a dog. I'd really like to have the space to get a pyr again.

I think Jack is cute. Another CW general could be cute as well. Your cat is Stonewall right? Maybe you need a Lee, Longstreet, or Early. Or you could go all Austen and name him Darcy or something like that.

  2. Funny thing about the cat...the neighbors took him. They were always outside during the summer, so he would go over there, now they have renamed him, and he goes into their house to sleep. Zach called him a turncoat, haha.

In my head, Jack is short for Jackson. Zach still isn't decided.
He was talking about Bartholomew, or Melchizedek. Mel isn't too bad, but to name your dog Melchizedek? No. Now Darcy...

  3. I almost forgot to say we did. He's Jackson. I call him Jack most of the time. Once I told Zach it was for Stonewall Jackson he was more agreeable...though now whenever I say "JACK!" Zach calls from upstairs, "what??" Haha.
