Every now and then I have a creative idea. Usually it is sparked by someone else's creative idea, but that's okay. (I thought long and hard about this dress - it consumed my thoughts a couple of nights that I couldn't fall asleep.)
Nursing dresses are expensive (nursing/maternity clothes, period). A good number of them are too short, too revealing, or just not my style. Not having dresses to wear while nursing is annoying, though, because sometimes you just want to pull on a dress.
The top is a little plain, but not for long...
I didn't take pictures along the way - I have two more tee shirts waiting to be converted into nursing dresses, so I will photograph the process then.
The top layer has elastic on the bottom of it to keep it from stretching out. The inside is two pieces that I need to sew snaps onto to keep them together down the middle.
This dress was super easy because I used the skirt from an April Cornell dress that I ordered a couple of years ago. The fabric was really pretty, but it had spaghetti straps, so it required wearing a jacket, which I don't really like to have to do.
You can see the waistband, and the way the elastic keeps things gathered a little.
The layer underneath still needs some tweaking - it really needs a tank top or camisole as the under layer (I just used the bottom part of the tee shirt that I cut off). The white is a little thin, though, so I couldn't just cut slits for nursing access. I'll figure something better out next time.
I thought that the waist would be higher, and that was a little disappointing, but it's still cute.
Overall I am really happy with how it came out. As always, there are things you think of after and say, "Why didn't I realize that sooner?!" Next time. There are a lot of options with this style, though - you could put ties on it, wear a thick belt over the waist...I'm going to embellish the front a little bit. I'm thinking buttons or some kind of trim?
I would love any thoughts or suggestions... :)
Just because. We are happily together again with finals behind us!!
Love,
Jess
Hi, Jess! I just love reading all about your adventures and seeing pics of your precious family. It makes it seem like we "visit" more often than I'm able to. :) Love, hugs, and prayers...
