Oh, the things people say!

I had a really funny experience last night at one of those gas station-type groceries. Zach had sent me to get ice cream so we could pour Frangelico over top - an incredibly sweet thing to do, especially considering that I was pulled over yesterday afternoon for talking on my cellphone while driving and the officer actually gave me the ticket. My record is completely clean. The last time I was pulled over was at least six years ago, for "drifting" because I was changing the radio station. Needless to say, there was hysterical crying and near-vomiting. Zach took it better than I did, and is going to help me try to get the fine lowered or the penalty dropped (if I had a NY driver's license it would be 3 points, thankfully I don't). I don't want to hear that I deserved to get the ticket because I was breaking the law. If talking on your cellphone while driving is worthy of being illegal, so is using a radio, driving with children, or even driving with another person you can talk to. I'm a safe driver, and my Mom can attest to the fact that I will get off the phone while driving if I don't think I can talk and be safe at the same time.

But anyways. The grocery cashier.

I walk up to the counter with my pint of icecream, and as I'm pulling out the money she says,

"Are you gonna have a baby?"

Heaven help us. I sure hope so.

"Yes."

"Do you know what you're having?"

"No, not yet."

"How far along are you?"

"Almost 28 weeks."

"WOW. You're really big for 28 weeks! -pause- No offense! It will just be a healthy baby!"

I smiled at her as she gave me my change, trying desperately not to laugh. She was being sweet, but I don't know how you go from, "Oh, is there a baby in there?" to "Man, you're MASSIVE."

I should've told her I have a stomach tumor that makes me look pregnant. I wonder what she would've said to that.

28 weeks!
As a side note, Frangelico, which is unbelievably delicious just with cream, is quite fabulous over ice cream, too.

Happy Trinity Sunday!

  1. LOL!! One of these times you really have to try the growth/tumor response.
